In the case where the GC sends items directly to a consultant, we recommend that the consultant should not log the RFI or submittal into TonicDM. If they do, TonicDM will want them to send the answer directly back to the GC. Also, if the architect also sends the consultant the RFI or submittal using TonicDM, the consultant will have duplicate copies.

Instead:

  • the consultant should treat the documents they get directly from the builder as an “early warning” so they can start to formulate their answer.
  • The architect should log the RFI or submittal into TonicDM then forward it to the consultant. The information will arrive in the consultant’s TonicDM account and they can use TonicDM to reply back to the architect.
  • The architect can then send the answer back to the GC.
